Obituary

Arthur W. Schmidt, 73, of Eau Claire died Friday, September 23, 2005, at Area Nursing Home in Colfax. He was born in Oak Park, Illinois, on November 10, 1931, the son of Arthur and Blanche (Smith) Schmidt. He graduated from Adams-Friendship High School with the class of 1949. \r\nArthur entered the U.S. Army on January 7, 1953, and served until his honorable discharge on January 6, 1955.\r\nHe attended UW-Stout receiving his B.S. in Vocational Education in 1970, and Masters in Vocational Education with electronics' emphasis in 1972.\r\nArthur worked 22 years for Chicago Northwestern Railroad working at the switch house located near Uniroyal, and then taught 22 years at Chippewa Valley Technical College until his retirement in 1993. He also farmed and ran numerous small businesses.\r\nHe was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.\r\nArthur had many interests including flying, rose and vegetable gardening, electronics' repair and traveling south.\r\nSurvivors include his son, Arthur John (Julie) Schmidt of Onalaska, two daughters, Cynthia (Gary) Gotter of Eau Claire and Annette (Kim) Durst of Rogers, MN; six grandchildren, Ashley (Scott) Nesbit, Arthur John II "A.J." , Talyah and Victoria Schmidt, Brandon and Alyssa Durst; sister-in-law, Bonnie Schmidt of Tullahoma, TN, nephew, John H. Schmidt of Atlanta, GA; and his significant other, Sandra Gravunder of Eau Claire.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren, Sydney Hope and Faith Elizabeth Schmidt; and his brother, Harold Schmidt.\r\nFamily and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home. Private family services will be held with burial in Lakeview Cemetery.\r\nIn lieu of flowers his family requests memorials be directed to the charity of donor's choice. \r\n
