Arvid E. Roswell, 77, formerly of 1011 Park Ridge Drive, Eau Claire, died Thursday, October 14, 2004 at Luther Hospital.\r\nHe was born on July 3, 1927 in Menomonie, the son of William and Elizabeth (Peterson) Roswell. Arvid went to grade school in Menomonie, and moved to Eau Claire with his family where he graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1946.\r\nArvid served in the U.S. Army during WWII, from 1945 until his honorable discharge in 1947. After his discharge he attended Chippewa Valley Technical College for one year and at Dunwoody Institute for two years. He was employed at Roberts Farmhouse Food Distributor for thirty-five years and at Wonder Car Wash for two years.\r\nHe was a member of First Lutheran Church where he ushered, was Scout Master of Troop No. 39 for 14 years, and played softball on the church team. Arvid coached Eau Claire Babe Ruth Baseball for 28 years. He was a member of Eau Claire Lodge #112 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Eau Claire, and Zor Temple of Madison; Eau Claire Chapter No. 126 Order of The Eastern Star, and Luella F. Nyhus Court No.1 Order of the Amaranth; Arvid was a member of VFW Post #305, American Legion Post #53; and United Commercial Travelers.\r\nHe enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and his cat, Smokie; his hobby was working with wood, which he enjoyed making into lawn ornaments.\r\nSurvivors include his brother, Duane of Eau Claire; two sisters, Janice (Gordon) Burseth of Huntly, IL and Joanne Pierce of Chippewa Falls; a niece and seven nephews; four grand nieces and eleven grand nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; a sister-in-law, Joan Roswell; and a nephew, Randy Roswell.\r\nFuneral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 19, 2004 at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Amy Odgren officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery where American Legion Post #53 will conduct military graveside rites. Family and friends may all from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home where there will be a 6:30 p.m. Masonic Service.
