Avis M. Halverson, 87, of Eau Claire, died Monday, May 5, 2008, at Luther Hospital with her dear friend and neighbor, Linda Krueger by her side.\r\nAvis was born in Osseo on July 25, 1920, the daughter of David and Libby (Vinning) Stewart. She was baptized on Nov. 13, 1943, at North Presbyterian Church in Eau Claire. Avis was confirmed Nov. 24, 1957, at Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church in the Town of Drammen.\r\nAvis married Charles T. Halverson on February 28, 1940, in Eleva. He died Nov. 5, 1992.\r\nShe worked as a nurse's aide at Luther Hospital and for Eau Claire County until her retirement in 1992.\r\nAvis loved being in her kitchen making soup, cookies, and pies for her neighbors and friends. She enjoyed her visits from the neighbors and their children with pictures or the newspaper in hand.\r\nAvis is survived by a sister, Ruth Tweet of Eau Claire; and a nephew, James (Kathy) Tweet of Eau Claire; and by several nieces and nephews; and by her loving neighbors, Greg (Linda) Krueger, and the Robert Palmquist Family, all of Eau Claire.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents; six brothers; and seven sisters.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2008 at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home with Father William A. Dhein officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in the Town of Drammen, WI. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the time of service at the funeral home.\r\n
