Obituary

Barbara A. Weisensel, age 75, of Eau Claire, WI died peacefully at her home on February 4, 2025. Barbara was born August 28, 1949, in La Crosse, WI, the second daughter of Norman and Elinor (Warninger) Ziemann. Shortly after Barb's birth, the family of four moved to Menomonie, WI, where Norm started his career with UW-Stout. Barb had an idyllic childhood and loved reminiscing with grade school and high school friends about growing up in small town comfort. Barb graduated from Menomonie High School in 1967 and went on to attend UW-Eau Claire where she graduated with a degree in Communication Disorders. After college graduation, she married her first husband, Wes Rood Jr, and they welcomed their son Wes. She then moved to Barron, WI and began her 32-year career as a Speech and Language Pathologist for Barron Area Schools. In 1982, Barb married her best friend, Jon Weisensel, and they later welcomed daughter, Dani. Barb retired in 2004, and she and Jon began their travel adventures. Some of their favorite trips were Australia, Ecuador, and a Seine River cruise. They especially loved visiting China in 2008, just before the summer Olympics, and made lifelong memories traveling the world together. They also cherished spending winters in Port Isabel/South Padre Island, Texas. Barb will be remembered for her love of family and friends, her knack for finding the best bargains, her role as the ultimate social director, her capacity to solve any word game, and her quick wit. Barb is survived by her husband of 42 years, Jon; son, Wesley (Dani) Rood and their children, Max and Mason; daughter, Dani (Greg) Mahr and their children Lani and Ryan; stepson, Brett (Risa) Weisensel and their children, Emma, Ryder (Kyleigh), and Sawyer; stepdaughter, Heidi Weisensel; sister, Diane (Jim) Hoffmeister; brother-in-law, Peter Weisensel; sister-in-law, Ellen (Gordy) Gehrke; and many nieces, nephews and friends. As per Barb's wishes, a private family memorial service and burial will take place later this year.
