Beatrice Helen Zillmer, 86, of Altoona, died on Friday, April 09, 2010, at the Syverson Lutheran Home in Eau Claire, after a short illness. \r\nBeatrice was born to Michael and Amanda (Matysik) Szydel on January 26, 1924, in the town of Fairchild, WI. She grew up on a farm north of Fairchild and was an excellent student in school. She graduated from Fairchild High School and was Salutatorian of her senior class. During World War II she worked at the Ball Street Defense Plant making bomb fuses. \r\nOn August 12, 1944, Beatrice married Earl C. Zillmer in the chapel of Camp San Louis Obispo, California. After the war they made their home in Eau Claire where they raised their three daughters. She was a dedicated homemaker who loved flower gardening and sewing lap quilts for nursing homes. Beatrice was a woman of deep faith with a strong devotion for saying the rosary and attending daily Mass.\r\nBeatrice is survived by her husband, Earl; three daughters, Marilyn (Michael) Smith, Vivian (the late Elliot) Holm, and Karen (Greg) Loe; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins\r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, LaVerne, Raymond, and Allen Szydel; and two sisters, Eleanor Larson and Arlene Lahn.\r\nA Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Altoona, with Monsignor Edmund Klimek celebrating the mass. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Town of Washington. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13th at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at church on Wednesday. \r\nLenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral and Cremation Services is serving the family.\r\nBeatrice's family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Grace Edgewood in Altoona for their kindness and care.
