Obituary

Bernadette Lucille Peterson, 83, of Eau Claire, passed away Friday, January 9, 2009, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire, with her loving family at her side. Bernadette Welter was born at home on April 13, 1925, in Eau Claire, to Edward and Nettie (Schwartz) Welter. She graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1943. She was united in marriage to Norman Peterson on September 26, 1948. They recently celebrated their 60th anniversary. \r\nShe had been employed at JCPenney, State Farm Insurance, and Myron's Hallmark. She was a volunteer at Luther Hospital Gift Shop for many years, and volunteered her time and her smile at Dove Health Care. She was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church, where she was active in the women's quilting group. She was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was an accomplished seamstress who enjoyed creating hand-made gifts, making family meals and lefse. She cherished her time spent with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.\r\nBernadette is survived by her husband, Norman; three daughters, Connie (Jim) Martenson of Menomonie, Jane (Mike) Lendle of Eau Claire, and Mary (Dan) Campbell of Chippewa Falls; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeff) Schultz, Jessica (Joe) Rodenwald, Angela Lendle, Kate (Jesse) Anderson, Grace (Adam) Gilmore, and Jason Doud; six great-grandchildren, Hayden and Sophia Schultz, Madeleine, Noah, Isaac Rodenwald, and Cora Jane Gilmore; a brother, Robert Welter; sisters-in-law, Lucille Welter and Betty Welter; brother-and-sister-in-law Gordon and Marcia Peterson; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. \r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Edward, Donald, Duane, and James (in infancy); and a grandson, Nicholas (in infancy).\r\nFriends and family are welcome at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, and an hour before services at the church. The American Legion Auxillary will hold a memorial service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire with Pastor Jennifer Elmquist officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral and Cremation Services is serving the family. \r\nMemorials may be made to First Lutheran Church quilt group or National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Wisconsin Chapter, 1120 James Dr. Suite A, Hartland WI 53029\r\nThe family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Luther Hospital and clergy at First Lutheran Church for their kindness and care of Bernadette.\r\nShe will be greatly missed as a wonderful, loving mother, grandmother and dear wife.
