Bernard "Bernie" J. Hartung, 70, of Eau Claire, died Saturday, December 31, 2016, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire. He was born in Plum City, WI, on November 17, 1946, a son of Carl and Evelyn (Sagstetter) Hartung. Bernie graduated from Elmwood High School with the Class of 1964. Bernie served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968, during the Vietnam Era, with the 101st Airbourne. He married Rosanne Hagmann on October 28, 1972. Bernie worked for Miller Standard, Dale's Standard, Job Service Center and North American Van Lines. He was a member of DAV Post 21, American Legion Post 53, VFW Post 305, Blind Veterans, PVA, Cooties, and MOPH Post 550. Bernie was a strong, courageous man who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Bernie is survived by his wife, Rosanne; children, Charles Hartung, Catherine (Dean Willam) Hartung, Theresa Hartung, Kelly (Russell Copeland) Hartung, Patrick (Laura) Hartung; two special nieces, Linda (Paul) Spoehr and Lori Hartung; eleven loving grandchildren; sister, Patricia (John) Wetzel; mother-in-law, Rose Hagmann; sister-in-law, Lisa Hartung. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dennis (Mary Ann) Hartung and Kenneth Hartung; and father-in-law, Richard Hagmann. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1712 Highland Avenue in Eau Claire, with Father Don Meuret officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2016, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Avenue in Eau Claire, with a Prayer Vigil at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the Mass, Thursday at the church. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Northern Wisconsin Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Beaver Brook Township, near Spooner, WI.
