Bernice Venida (Schultz) Geitz, age 87, of Eau Claire, passed away with her loving daughters at her side on October 5, 2011, at Dove Healthcare West, Eau Claire. Bernice was born in Gilmanton, WI, the daughter of Elmer and Wilma (Lieberman) Schultz on March 19, 1924. She attended grade school in Gilmanton and graduated from Mondovi High School in 1941. She attended business school in Eau Claire and later worked as an assistant secretary and treasurer at the Mondovi Production Credit Office. Bernice's love of travel and desire to "be-on-the-go" began as a young woman, driving cross-country in her ford convertible to Los Angeles where she joined Ed, the love of her life and husband of 55 years. They were married in the First Methodist Church of LA on August 21, 1943, and honey-mooned in Yosemite National Park. While living in LA, she worked for Motors Insurance Corporation, a subsidiary of General Motors. Bernice and Ed returned to Eau Claire where she devoted herself to being a wife, mother and friend to many. She enjoyed part-time employment outside the home at J.C. Penny's and the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire. She and her husband owned property on the Chippewa Flowage in Hayward, WI and spent many happy years at their cabin enjoying hunting, fishing and family gatherings. After retirement they loved traveling and spending winters in Florida and Arizona. In her late years, her greatest joy was time spent with family and the companionship of her friends. She was a member of the Lake Street United Methodist Church in Eau Claire. Bernice will be remembered as a kind and gentle 'Angel on Earth' with the ability to love unconditionally - cherished traits by those who knew and love her. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward; and a sister, Arleen Harris. She is survived by two daughters, Kay (Terry) Moe and Shari Burr; three grandchildren, David (Megan) Moe, Kari (Jesse Kussow) Moe and Bryan Burr; three great-grandchildren, Leah and Jay Moe and Madison Kussow; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to express their gratitude to the Dove West and South "doves" for their tender loving care. Funeral Service will be held at 11:30am on Monday, October 10, 2011, at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave., Eau Claire, with Reverend Craig Sauk officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. She will be laid to rest in Forest Hill Cemetery, Eau Claire. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial gifts be made in her honor to the Mayo Health System Homecare and Hospice and to the American Cancer Society Midwest Division.
