Brian Everett Bergquist, age 76, passed away at Mayo Clinic Health Systems-Eau Claire Hospital on Sunday, July 27, 2014, surrounded by all of his children. Brian was born in Midale, Saskatchewan, Canada on April 7, 1938. He grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan and spent his summers working on his Uncle Bill's farm in Midale. As a teen, he used his bicycle to make deliveries for Jolly Drugs. At 18, he joined the Canadian National Railroad and worked there for two years. After that, he worked in a nickel mine in northern Canada. From there, he moved to Chicago where he worked for Roseland Buick and met his wife, Augusta. In 1974, he moved his family to the Eau Claire area where he worked at Markquardt's Chevrolet until he retired at 65. Brian and Augusta raised six children together, and remained life long friends following their divorce. He was a Christian man who was passionate about cars, animals, fishing and the Packers. Brian also loved to go out to dinner, the movies, the dog park and a good cup of coffee. He spent five years restoring an old 1927 Chevrolet and enjoyed driving it with his dog, Bear, by his side. He loved fishing with his children, grandchildren and sons-in-law. Always the life of the party, he loved to entertain everyone with interesting tales of his adventures and the people he met along the way. Brian leaves behind his children, Brian (Jill) Bergquist, Kirk (Amie) Bergquist, Kellee (Brent Koehler), Wendi, Pamela (Richard Carreras), and Dianna (Chad Ryder); nine grandchildren; his sisters, Barbara (Jim), Peggy (Wayne), Judith (Terry) and Nancy (Chuck); and his very special dog, Tex. He was preceded in death by his parents; Alvin and Marion Bergquist. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 31, 2014, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Avenue, Eau Claire, and one hour prior to the service, Friday, at the church. Funeral service will be on Friday, August 1, 2014, at 1:00pm at Amy Chapel, E9882 370th Avenue, Eau Claire, with Pastor Russell Kampfer officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Elk Mound, WI. In lieu of flowers Brian would have preferred a donation to the Bob's House For Dogs, www.bobshousefordogs.org or 715.878.4505. A special thank you to the staff at Sacred Heart Hospital, Luther-Mayo Hospital and especially Brian's personal doctor, Dr. Abdulla Akfaly, for all the care and comfort they provided.
