Bruce D. Solberg, 77, of Eau Claire, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Eau Claire. Bruce was born on August 3, 1935, in Eau Claire, WI, a son of Oscar and Laura (Strehlau) Solberg. He graduated from Eau Claire Senor High with the Class of 1954. On August 21, 1955, he was injured in a swimming accident in Lake Altoona. He then spent the next 26 months at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. As a result of his injuries, he became a quadriplegic. Through the aid and assistance of the state vocational rehabilitation program, he became a graduate of the University of Illinois Champaign/Urbana, in 1963, with a 4-year Accounting Degree and operated an accounting business out of his home. He continued to work until his death. Bruce was never afraid of a challenge. He loved to drive and after his father passed away, he and his mother (and in later years, his cousin) would travel all the back roads of Wisconsin. Bruce loved to travel. He would take the van and AirStream and go to Alaska or out west every year for six weeks. Bruce had two nieces that he became their wheels for, attending all of their school functions and taking them where ever they needed to go. Bruce is survived by his sister, Donna Anderson (Conrad Schupp) of Elk Mound; two nieces, Kim M. Anderson of Elk Mound and Brandy Buss of Chippewa Falls; great-niece, Bayliegh Buss of Chippewa Falls; great-nephew, Jake Buss of Chippewa Falls; special cousin, Joyce Solberg, who lived with him for the past few years; and many more cousins, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Dedrich Solberg. Funeral Services will be 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Peace Lutheran Church, 501 E. Fillmore Ave. in Eau Claire, with Pastor Mark Schulz officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home-WEST CHAPEL, 1405 N. Clairemont Ave. in Eau Claire and one hour prior to the service, Thursday, at the church. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
