Burnett W. "Bernie" Bernicke, 96, of Eau Claire, died Thursday, April 28, 2011, at Dove Healthcare in Eau Claire, WI.\r\nBurnett was born in Eau Claire on November 6, 1914, a son of Paul and Mary (Kumferman) Bernicke. \r\nBernie married Joan Larson on February 28, 1936, in Eau Claire.\r\nBernie worked as a Supervisor for Uniroyal until his retirement in 1976. \r\nBernie was a member of and volunteered for many organizations, which included, First Lutheran Church, Chippewa Valley Gem&Mineral Society, Luther Hospital Art Committee Board, Red Cross Bloodmobile, Boy Scouts of America, receiving the Silver Beaver Award in 1965, and Eau Claire Lodge #112, F&AM. He was also a clown for Sawduster's Unit of Shriners.\r\nBernie was inducted into Cavalry Hall of Fame in Milwaukee, WI during the 1980's and was awarded Honorary Alumnus for the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1992.\r\nBernie enjoyed gardening, woodworking, jewelry making, hunting, fishing to name a few.\r\nBernie is survived by his two daughters, Mary Jo (Donald) Amundson and Susie (William) Anderson both of Eau Claire; a son, Thomas (Diane) of Alamogordo, NM; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Bernicke of Portage, WI and Enva Bernicke of Eau Claire; by numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends. \r\nHe was preceded in death by his wife; parents; daughter, Sally Bernicke; two grandsons, Todd and Timothy Amundson; five sisters and three brothers. \r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 2, 2011, at First Lutheran Church, 1005 Oxford Ave. in Eau Claire, with Pastor Kristin Swenson officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2011, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave. in Eau Claire, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church. \r\n"When you live 96 years, you accumulate some knowledge you can share."On his hectic-pace: "That's what life's all about, isn't it?""When you care about people, they care about you."\r\n
