Clarence Roger Ganong, age 78 of Eau Claire, died peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, October 1, 2012 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire. Roger was born on March 11, 1934, to Clarence "Ole" and Gertrude (Reed) Ganong in Eau Claire, WI. He graduated from Eau Claire Senior High with the class of 1953. After graduating, he served in the U.S. Army for three years. Roger married Mary Jo Eide on July 6, 1957, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eau Claire. Roger worked many important jobs throughout his life, and happily retired from Glen Mack Trucking in 1999. In his retirement, he spent much of his time going to the cottage, fishing, traveling, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. He was an active member of St. James for over 40 years. He especially enjoyed ushering and volunteering at Son Shine Days. Roger is preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Noble and Frances Eide; brothers, Ronnie and Tommy; and nephews, Steve and Chris. Roger is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Jo; children, Michael (Shelly), David (Holly), and Anne (Dan) Martenson; grandchildren, Ali, Erica, Melissa, Lindsay, Ashley, Tyler, Mitchell, Miranda, and Jordan; and two great-grandsons; siblings, Gary (Chris), Betty, Susan (Dennis), Carol (Les), and Julie; along with nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 4, 2012, at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home, West Chapel, 1405 N. Clairemont Ave., Eau Claire, with a Public Prayer Vigil beginning at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 (Noon) on Friday, October 5, 2012, at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 2502 11th Street, Eau Claire, with Father John Schultz officiating. Visitation will also be one hour prior to Mass at church. Interment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Town of Washington at a later date.
