Charlotte Viola "Vi" Johnson, age 96 of Eau Claire, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 10, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System, Eau Claire. Vi was born in Eau Claire on June 25, 1916, to Carl and Anna (Larson) Solie. She graduated from Eau Claire High School. In 1937, Vi married Edwin B. Johnson in Stillwater, MN. Vi was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church. She was active in Circle and Lady's Aid at First Lutheran Church. She was an avid card player and enjoyed her sewing club which turned into a card club playing 500. Until she was no longer able, she also played 500 at the L.E. Phillips Center. Vi was a wonderful grandmother to her grandchildren, Jon Erickson, Amy Erickson, and Shawn Perry. Vi is survived by her daughter, Virginia Erickson of Eau Claire; son, Dennis (Lee) Johnson of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren, Jon (Alice) Erickson of Chicago, IL, and Amy Erickson of Las Vegas, NV; great-grandchildren, Bennett, Leo, and Audrey Erickson of Chicago, IL and Morgan Perry of Reno, NV. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Johnson in 1975; sisters, Jenny Laures and Lillian Hartman; niece, Beatrice Engebretson; and grand-daughter, Shawn Perry. A very special thank you to Sue Carey and the staff at Grace Edgewood for helping make the last two years of Vi's life happy and comfortable. She truly enjoyed her stay there. A thank you to Dr. Mark Edstrom for the wonderful care he gave to Vi and the support he gave to her family. Also to the staff at Mayo Hospital 4th floor Wishart building, for the compassionate care they provided for Vi and the cooperation with family members. Also, a very special thank you to Vi's close friend, Ann Stygar, who faithfully visited her weekly. Vi thoroughly enjoyed each and every visit. The family especially wants to thank Pastor Lowell Halverson for all his thoughtfulness during this difficult time. His help was gratefully appreciated. Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 16, 2012, at First Lutheran Church Chapel, 1005 Oxford Ave., Eau Claire, with a visitation one hour prior to the service in the chapel. Pastors Michael Rehak and Lowell Halverson will be officiating. Interment will be in Lakeview cemetery, Eau Claire. The family would prefer memorials be directed to Grace Edgewood Assisted Living, 2512 Spooner Ave., Altoona, WI 54720 or to First Lutheran Church of Eau Claire.
