Carl Joseph Bartosh was born on January 2, 1923, in Eau Claire, WI. He was the son of immigrant parents, Richard and Hannah (Auer) Bartosh. He was called home by his heavenly father on May 2, 2009.\r\nHe was baptized and confirmed at the Lake Street Methodist Church in Eau Claire. Carl graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1941 and enlisted in the US Marine Corps in March, 1942. He served in the South Pacific during World War II. He married his high school sweetheart, Carol Severson, on March 23, 1944. After his discharge from the Marine Corps in March, 1946, Carl worked with his father in the family business, Bartosh Drycleaners, Launderers, and Fur Storage until taking over upon his father's passing in December, 1955. He sold the dry-cleaning business in 1980 and began as a salesman for the Lutheran Digest, a career change he enjoyed until 2006. Health issues forced him to retire at the age of 83. \r\nCarl enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. He also enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, bird watching, golf, and playing cribbage. His quick wit and sense of humor won him many life-long friends in the Eau Claire Area. He was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday school, played dart ball, and was active in the Men's Club and served as President for several years. He was a member of the Eau Claire Lions Club, Chippewa Valley Marine Corps League, and VFW Post #305 for many years. He joined the Masonic Order in about 1962 and was a member of Eau Claire Lodge #112 F&AM, a 32nd Degree Mason, member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Eau Claire, Zor Shrine of Madison, and the Sawdusters. He also served on the Board of Directors at the Consumers' Co-op for many years following his father's death. His father was one of the founders of the Consumers' Co-op. \r\nCarl is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carol; a son, Richard (Noreen) Bartosh of Wisconsin Rapids; four daughters, Cynthia Simonson of Houston, Texas, Debbie (Hector) Rodriquez of Austin, Texas, Susan (Brian) Olson of Plymouth, Minnesota, and Bonnie Priest of Eau Claire; nine grandchildren, Eric (Alyssa) Bartosh, Kristen (David) George, Andrew Bartosh, Laura (Matthew) Johnson, Christine and David Priest, Michael and Jamie Olson, and Reina (Ray) Preston; and four great-grandchildren, Carl Uebe, Taylor and Rosie Valmain, and Drew Bartosh. He is also survived by one brother, Walter (Helen) Bartosh; and one sister, Richardis Vanderslice, both of California. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Kathryn Harriet Byer. \r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Rolf A. Nestingen officiating. Burial with Military Honors conducted by VFW Post #305 will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home where a Masonic Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Tuesday at the church from 10 to 11 a.m.
