Carl G. Hort, age 87, of Eau Claire, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at Sacred Heart Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 9, 1927, in Kenosha, WI, to August and Emma (Richter) Hort. Carl was united in marriage to Irma M. Whitwam on December 31, 1946. Together they raised five children. Later he married Gloria Akers on January 30, 1982. Carl was an active member of Sacred Heart Church. He served for the United States Navy Seabee's during WWII. After returning home, he worked a Uniroyal for 40 years, retiring in 1986. For the next 18 years, Carl and Gloria enjoyed traveling to Arizona for the winter. He also enjoyed taking trips to Racine to visit family. Carl took great pride in helping others, and would always drop what he was doing and come to the aid of anyone who called. Carl had many passions in his life, including gardening, fishing, building homes, canning, watching the Packers, and playing cribbage with his daughter, Kaye and dear friend, Ed. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. Carl was very family orientated, always concerned for the wellbeing of his children, grandchildren and wife. At the age of 70, he was still going strong, helping his son, Mike, build his home. He was also known as the Rosette Man to many people. Those who knew him, have stories about his generosity, kind heart and helping hands. He will be dearly missed by friends and family. Carl is survived by his wife, Gloria; his children, Kaye (Louis) Jasper, Gary (Lisa) Hort, Jane (Leo) Braun, Mike (Michelle) Hort and Mary Ellen Hort (Tony); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley (Gary) Long; brother, Sonny Hort; step-children, Karen (Terry) Pecore, Tom Akers and Bill (Lori) Akers; along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
