Obituary

CARL J. WANGEN, 78, of 2226 Melanie Lane, Eau Claire, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998 at Sacred Heart Hospital. He was born July 25, 1920 in Eau Claire to John and Caroline (Lahr) Wangen. Carl married Jeanette Olson in Decorah, IA on June 29, 1942. \r\nCarl served as quarter-master with the U.S. Army in the European theater from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1945. He and Jeanette owned and operated Wangen's Paint&Carpet and Gambles Hardware. Following their retirement in 1984, they moved to Chetek where they resided until returning to Eau Claire last year.\r\nHe was a member of Lake United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #53, VFW Post # 305 and United Commercial Travelers. \r\nSurvivors include his wife of 56 years, Jeanette; a daughter, Joanne (Butch) Martin; a son, Larry Wangen; a sister, Florence Mattson all of Eau Claire; a brother, Paul Wangen of Chippewa Falls; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.\r\nCarl was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John Jr. and LaVerne; and four sisters, Viola Taves, Marie Ruppelt, Beatrice Bleske and Delores Langert.\r\nFuneral Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lake Street United Methodist Church with Pastor Janis Carole Best officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Gardens Cemetery in the town of Washington. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home and hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
