Obituary

Carmen Elizabeth Schlottman, 91, of Eau Claire died Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at Dove Healthcare. She was born August 30, 1914, in Boyceville, WI, the daughter of Frank and Doretta (Smith) Grutt.\r\nCarmen married Harold Schlottman on August 8, 1940, in Boyceville, WI. They farmed together in Dunn County until he passed away on July 29, 1944. She later moved to Eau Claire and raised her daughter.\r\nShe was the head cook at Luther Hospital for over 20 years. Carmen was responsible for organizing the first organized union at the hospital. She was also very active in the Democratic Party.\r\nCarmen was a long time member of Chapel Heights United Methodist Church.\r\nAmong her many hobbies were knitting, rock collecting, and collecting and reading cookbooks. She was also an avid television game show fan. Carmen loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, to which she was known as "granny."\r\nCarmen is survived by her daughter, Diane (John) Zurbuchen of Eau Claire; two grandsons, Tate (Paula) Zurbuchen, and Jesse (Amy) Zurbuchen, both of Elk Mound; five great-grandchildren, Makenna, Ryan, Alexandria, Noah, and Kourtney Zurbuchen, all of Elk Mound; and her sister, Velma Grutt of Eau Claire.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Harold. \r\nMemorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 24, 2006, at Chapel Heights United Methodist Church, Eau Claire with Pastor Jim McKay officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Eau Claire. Family and friends may call one hour prior to services Friday at church. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral and Cremation Services is serving the family.\r\nMemorials are preferred to Chapel Heights United Methodist Church, 300 E. Hamilton Ave., Eau Claire, WI 54701.
