Carol E. Nielsen, 68 of Eau Claire, WI, passed away at her home, on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, after a six year battle of a reoccurrence of cancer. She was born in Eau Claire, on July 27, 1943, to Hazel and August Hauptman. She was a graduate of Regis High School. Carol married Daniel W Nielsen of Chippewa Falls, on March 9th, 1963. They recently celebrated their 49th year of marriage. Carol was a devoted wife and mother, and together they raised 4 children. She also worked various jobs that included Sacred Heart Hospital, Mt. Washington Residency, Hutchinson Technology, and most recently, at UWEC in food service. Together, Carol and Dan enjoyed raising their family on their property on the Chippewa River, bowling, watching her grandchildren and enjoying the beautiful River Valley seasons. Carol is survived by her husband Daniel; four children, Tereasa (Jim) Davey, Tony (Melissa Allen), Todd (Kristen), and Troy; eleven grandchildren, Melissa, Jamie, Ryan, Cody, Desmond, Max, Jazmin, Ryker, Stella, Dautre, and Sohpia; three sisters, Marilyn (Robert) Redmond of Oregon, Frances Hestekin of Idaho, and Patricia (Vernon) Abraham of Minnesota; and also by many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents, Hazel and August Hauptman; brothers, Robert and James Hauptman; and sister, Barbara (Paul) Fuson. A Gathering of family and friends will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home WEST CHAPEL, 1405 N. Clairemont Ave. in Eau Claire. A Funeral Service will be at 7:30 p.m. with Elder Curt Berger officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Hill Grove Cemetery in the Town of Colfax. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her doctor, Dr. Bilal Naqvi, the nurses at the Cancer Center, as well as the Hospice staff, whom all provided much needed support and care.
