Obituary

CAROL E. SMITH, 69, of 944 Leonard Drive, Eau Claire, died Monday, January 4, 1999 at Dove Health Care Center. She was born September 16, 1929 in Cleveland Township, Chippewa County, WI, to Leo and Winnie (Simmerman) Pagenkopf. She married Robert C. Smith in Eau Claire on April 6, 1946. Carol married Donald C. Smith in Eau Claire on June 21, 1969. She had worked as a cook at Wally Swiss Chalet, National Presto and in later years helped a number of people as caretaker. She was a member of Epiphany Lutheran Church. Carol enjoyed quilt making, cooking, attending thrift sales and participating at flea markets with Donald.\r\nSurvivors include her husband, Donald; three sons, Larry (Pat) and John (Janice) both of Osseo, and David (Donna) of Elk Mound; a daughter, Laura Combs of Almond; a step-son, Steve (Patti) of Osseo; a step-daughter, Sally Smith of Chippewa Falls; seven grandchildren, Stacy, Heather, Terry, Tonya, Ryan, Robin and C.J. seven step-grandchildren, Jason, Josh, Debra Gera, Kendra, Gwen and David; five great-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; two sisters, Edith Scheit and Nancy Shafer both of Eau Claire; a brother, Walt (Mary) Pagenkopf of Elk Mound; and several nieces and nephews.\r\nCarol was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Audrey Smith, a step-son, Daniel Smith; a sister, Ruth Washburn; and a brother, Harold Pierce.\r\nFuneral Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Epiphany Lutheran Church with Pastor Brent L. Parrish officiating. Burial will be in Cornell Cemetery, Cornell WI. Friends may call 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Friday at the church.
