Charles "Chuck" R. Herger, of Eau Claire, passed away at his home on March 22, 2015, at the age of 84. Born on February 18, 1931, to Bertice (Smith) & Alfred Herger. On October 14, 1967, he married Nola (Strauch-Rieper) and Chuck was overjoyed to become part of such a large family. They enjoyed many wonderful years together; visiting family, playing cards, camping and traveling, Chuck was a man of many talents and hobbies; and was known for his amazing photography and woodworking abilities. He delighted in making things for others and gave so much of himself to his friends and family. He retired after many years of working with the City of Eau Claire but he continued to stay active with fishing, hunting and volunteering at church and with the Meals on Wheels program. Charles is survived by his wife, Nola, of Eau Claire; step-children, Joyce (Rieper-Hendricks) Green of Rice Lake, Kerry Rieper of Barron, John (Pat) Rieper of Cumberland, Ron (Marsha) Rieper of Des Moines, IA., Al Rieper of St. Paul, MN., Paul and Fred Rieper, both of Chippewa Falls; as well as many grand, great-grand, and great-great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-daughter, Christine (Rieper) Hergert of Barronett, WI. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2015, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 601 Fall St., Eau Claire with burial to follow at Lutheran Church Cemetery. Pastor Russell Kampfer will officiate the ceremony. Visitation is being held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2015, at the WEST CHAPEL of Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home,1405 N. Clairemont Ave., Eau Claire,and also one hour prior to the service at church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Charles Herger's life.
