Chester Daniel "Chet" McMahon, 88, of Eau Claire, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2013, at Knapp Haven Nursing Home in Chetek. He was born in Eau Claire on August 9, 1925, to Hubert and Anna (Leinenkugel) McMahon. Chet attended Eau Claire Senior High School and graduated with the Class of 1943. He married his high school sweetheart, Lorraine Hall on July 3, 1943 in Dubuque, IA. Chet enlisted in the US Army and was in combat during World War II in Ardness, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the Victory Metal, American Theater Ribbon, and European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with three bronze battle stars, two overseas service bars and the Good Conduct Metal. Chet was discharged as a Sergeant on January 26, 1946. Upon returning from WWII Chet began his training as an electrician and achieved certification as a Master Electrician. He primarily worked for K.H. Boley and Sherman Electric both in Eau Claire until his retirement. Chet was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was proud of his Irish heritage and never asked anyone of anything, but gave of himself without hesitation. He was a man you could count on who loved his family with a passion. His favorite past time was spending time with his wife and family at "the cottage" on Lake Eau Claire. When Chet wasn't at the lake, he was the one family member and friends called on to have something done, and done right. Two of his favorite sayings were, "If you are going to do something, do it right the first time" and the second was, "If you don't know what to do, just smile." He is survived by his daughter, Diane (Peter) Pavelski; two grandchildren, Cynthia (Tom) Dechant and Kevin (Barb) Pavelski; five great-granchildren, Anthony, Shea and Isaac Dechant and Paige and Taylor Pavelski; and also by many special and loved nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Chet was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Lorraine; parents; four brothers, James "Jim" (Glady), John "Mooch" (Ide), Robert "Bud" (Avis) and Richard "Dick" (Mary Ellen). A funeral service for immediate family will be held at 11a.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave., in Eau Claire with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Eau Claire. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
