CHRYSTAL A. KAWELL, 85, of 2003 Altoona Ave., died Saturday, December 11, 1999 at The Clairemont Nursing Home. She was born August 31, 1914 in Eau Claire to Ernest and Martha (Stabenow) Riek. She graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School with the Class of 1932. Chrystal was united in marriage with Carl H. Kawell at St. John's Lutheran Church on June 10, 1937.\r\nShe was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she enjoyed participating in church activities and attending Tuesday morning Bible Study; was a member of Eastern Star, and was a Pink Lady volunteer at Luther Hospital. Chrystal enjoyed playing in several card clubs including one with friends for over 50 years. \r\nSurvivors include two daughters, Susan Kawell of Arcadia, CA, and Sally (Stephen) Thompson of Eau Claire; grandson, Steven (Jane) Thompson and granddaughter, Victoria (Jeffery) Schmid; two great grandchildren, Christopher and Samantha all of Eau Claire.\r\nChrystal was preceded in death by her husband Carl in 1992; a granddaughter, Sarah; her parents; a brother, Justus Riek and sister, Uldene Basor.\r\nFuneral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastor Ned S. Lenhart officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Gardens Cemetery in the town of Washington. Friends are invited to call 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.
