Obituary

Claire M. Kahabka, age 92, formerly of 610 Gray St., died Sunday, September 8, 1996 at M.B. Syverson Lutheran Home. She was born December 8, 1903 to Morton and Anna (Jothen) Slette in Vernon County near Coon Valley, Wisconsin.\r\nAfter graduating from high school in Blair, she completed a two year course in elementary education at LaCrosse Teacher's College and summer sessions in Eau Claire and River Falls. Claire taught school several years in Plum City and Sauk City.\r\nAfter her marriage to Harry G. Kahabka, they moved to Eau Claire where she continued teaching and served as a librarian in Eau Claire elementary schools until her retirement in 1962. Claire served as a volunteer at Luther Hospital and Syverson Lutheran Home. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, with interests in all church activities and participated in many of them.\r\nShe is survived by two sisters, Myrtle Swenson of Whitehall and Velva (Robert) Ettner of Madison; many nieces and nephews, including Mart (Mary) Swenson of Eau Claire; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Slette of Arizona and Bernetta Kahabka of Rochester,MN.\r\nClaire was preceded in death by her husband, Harry in 1991; three sisters, Josephine Slette, Lillian Slette and Letty Lust; and five brothers, Oswald, Alf, Kenneth, Otto and Don.\r\nMemorial services will be at 2 P.M. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church Chapel with Pastor Barbara A. Koch officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Friends are invited to call from 1:30 P.M. until time of services Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be directed to Grace Lutheran Church. Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home is serving the family.
