Clare " D" Harshman, 78, of Elk Lake, died Friday, September 6, 2002 at Sacred Heart Hospital. He was born on January 15, 1924 to Clarence and Laura (Christiansen) Harshman in the Town of Spring Brook, Dunn County.\r\nClare married Anita Knott on June 24, 1942 in Menomonie. They were married for twenty four years.\r\nHe served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1946 in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre as a machinist mate. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post #53 and VFW Post #305. \r\nClare worked for Spring Brook Township, Evans and Lee Company in Eau Claire, Max Phillips and Sons for eight years as a carpenter and mason, Enders Tree Service, a caretaker for Waneka Cemetery, and started Harsh's Tree Service, which his son, Mike operates today.\r\nSurvivors include his companion of thirty five years, Bessie Ellis; six sons, Steven, Michael, Rodney, Robert and Ronald (Mary Lou) all of Chippewa Falls, and Clare A. (June) of Eau Claire; two daughters, Terri (Jack) Holum of Tucson, AZ and Cheryl Smith of Sheboygan; twenty nine grandchildren and thirty six great-grandchildren; two brothers, George of Rockford, IL and Roy (Janet) of Iron Mountain, MI; three sisters, Hazel (Clarence Engeldinger of Menomonie, Pauline Lesik of Milwaukee and Mae Paar of Apache Junction, AZ. \r\nClare was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anita Harshman-Brady; two brothers, Paul and Benjamin; and a sister, Ellen Johnston.\r\n Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2002 at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave., Eau Claire, with Pastor Dale Bussinger officiating. Burial will be in Waneka Cemetery, with Military Rites, in the Town of Spring Brook, Dunn County. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday (Today) and one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Tuesday.
