Obituary

Cleo L. Hoel, 57, of Eau Claire died Monday, October 15, 2007, at his home. He was born in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin on June 4, 1950, the son of Rae and Helen (Goettl) Hoel.\r\nHe grew up in Cornell and graduated from Cornell High School with the class of 1968.\r\nCleo married Marianne R. "Jo" Paulsen on August 28, 1971 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Cornell.\r\nHe served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1969 until his honorable discharge in 1975.\r\nCleo worked as a steel fabricator for PDM Bridge in Eau Claire for 28 years.\r\nHe was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and former member of Hope Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. Cleo was also a member of the Eau Claire Rod&Gun Club and Ten-Buck-Too.\r\nCleo's family always came first in his life. He enjoyed family get-togethers, especially the potluck meals. He really loved dancing with his "Bird". Cleo loved hunting with his son, friends and family at Ten-Buck-Too. If anyone asked, he could tell the exact date and story behind every wild animal he harvested. One of his many prized possessions was an autographed baseball which was presented to him by the 2007 Huskies baseball team and coaches following their sectional victory.\r\nCleo is survived by his wife, Marianne; son, Lukas (fiancée, Anne McWhite) of Eau Claire; three brothers, Clarence (Jane) Hoel of Stanley, Howard (Susan) Hoel of West Bend, and Robert Hoel of Bloomer; a sister, Bonnie (Alfred) Schlender of Bloomer; his mother-in-law, Hilda Trudeau of Luck; two sisters-in-law, Linda (Dean) Olson of Altoona and Patricia (Michael) Rufledt of Bloomer; three brothers-in-law, Harold "Buck" (Peg) Paulsen Jr. of Eau Claire, Kevin Paulsen of Boca Rotan, FL, and Brian (Laura) Paulsen of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; and many treasured nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents, Rae and Helen; and his father-in-law, Harold "Shire" Paulsen.\r\nCleo so much appreciated the outpourings of love and support shown to him and his family throughout his illness.\r\nMemorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 19, 2007, at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Rolf A. Nestingen and Rev. James Page officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.\r\n
