CLIFFORD A. "AL" WELLS, of 1208 Glenn Place, Eau Claire, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2001 at his home. He was born on September 12, 1927 in Chippewa Falls, the son of Floyd and Madeline (Anderson) Wells. Cliff graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1945. He served as an aviation cadet, in the Army Air Corps in the Aleutian Islands, until his honorable discharge on May 13, 1947.\r\nCliff married Joyce M. Johnson in Eau Claire on May 12, 1951.\r\nAs a young man, Cliff worked for the Soo Line Railroad and Uniroyal. He then worked at Wisconsin Bell for 33 years. After retiring from the phone company, he was a consultant with Sun Belt Engineering. \r\nHe was a member of V.F.W. Post #305, Ducks Unlimited, National Wild Turkey Federation, NRA, Telephone Pioneers of America and a scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts.\r\nCliff loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.\r\nSurvivors include a son, David (Sandra) Wells of Rochester, MN; two daughters, Cristine (William) Akan of Oshkosh and Susan Wells of Chicago, IL; four grandchildren ,Allen (fiance, Lissa Whitten) Briggs and Stacy (Joel) Shiffer both of Eau Claire, Alicia Mogen and Bradley David Wells of Rochester, MN; three great grandchildren, Emily, Annika and Luke Shiffer; three brothers, Floyd (Delores) Wells of Eau Claire, James Wells and Robert (Marilyn) Wells both of Chippewa Falls; a sister, Nancy McLaughlin of River Falls; brother-in-law, Gordon (Mavis) Johnson of Eau Claire; many nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce in 1988; his parents; sister, Winifred Domer; brothers-in-law, Larry Leazott, Ben Domer and Jim McLaughlin; and sisters-in-law, Betty Wells and Elaine Leazott.\r\nFuneral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2001 at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home with Pastor James H. Schaefer officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday (Today) and an hour prior to services on Saturday at the funeral home.
