Obituary

Dr. Daniel C. Ebel, 51, of Eau Claire died Saturday, April 21, 2007, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born in Oelwein, Iowa on May 24, 1955, a son of Harold and Dorothy (Robinson) Ebel. \r\nDan was raised in Elkader, IA., his parents both teachers. They instilled in him a lifelong love of learning, which he never lost. He went on to the University of Iowa, Iowa City and graduated from medical school there in 1981. After a Family Medicine residency he decided to go into Emergency Medicine at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, starting his practice there in 1984.\r\nDan had married his only childhood sweetheart, Jane M. Powell, in 1977, and was by her side until her untimely death in 1993. \r\nHe found love again with the delightful Pamela K. Harsvick, and they were married at Peace Lutheran Church on March 25, 1995. He had three daughters, Laura, Haley and Hannah, and they were his treasures. He delighted in being surrounded by all the women in his life.\r\nDan took pleasure in hunting, boating, and woodcutting. He loved to work out and had biceps like rocks. Planting trees made him feel satisfied. He was an Iowa boy, through and through, which meant he was honest and thoughtful, and believed in doing things the right way. \r\nHe was a caring, thorough doctor, and really tried to do the best for everyone he treated. Dan had a laugh that was joyfully infectious. He was a loyal friend and a wonderful story-teller. He loved Bob Dylan as much as Abe Lincoln. He was never pretentious, but always considerate. Dan had a wealth of information stored away and was cultured to a depth rarely shared. He loved life, and you knew it when you were with him. \r\nHe is survived by his wife, Pam; his three daughters, Laura of Chicago, IL, Haley and Hanna at home; his father, Harold Ebel of Moose Lake, MN; a brother, David Ebel of Boston, MA; sister, Jeannie Ebel of Mpls, MN; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Marvin and Peggy Harsvick of Barnes, WI; two sisters-in-law, Cindy (Dick) Heintz of Eau Claire and Patty (Jon) Nordlund of Peachtree City, GA; and several nieces and nephews.\r\nDan was also preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Ebel.\r\nHe will be missed by his many friends.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2007, at Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark W. Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in the town of Washington. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
