Obituary

Darlene M. Garborg, 84, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026 at the Bloomer Mayo Hospital.

Darlene was born on September 9, 1941, to Arthur and Marion (Gran) Peterson at Whitehall, Wisconsin.

She graduated from the Osseo High School. She married Harold Melsness on July 18, 1959 and later they divorced. On September 30, 2000, she married Ivar Garborg and together they shared 16 years of marriage.

Darlene worked at Presto for many years as a security guard until moving to San Diego on October 31, 1984 where she worked for the San Diego County Probation Office until retirement. After retirement she moved back to Wisconsin.

She loved to go hunting at the 80 and traveling for many miles on the back of the Harley. She also enjoyed crocheting many blankets and loved to read until her eyesight didn’t allow her to read anymore. She was avid Green Bay Packer and Brewers Fan.

She will be dearly missed by her loving children, Brian (Brenda) Melsness, Lauri Sterry, Craig Melsness and Eric (Lori Hoege) Garborg. She will also be missed by her 13 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She is further survived by her brothers Ronald (Denny) Peterson, Dalton (Debbie) Peterson and Steven (Roxanne) Peterson. Uncle Stanley (Donna) Gran and brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, Tor (Mary) Garborg, Hanna Handeland, Bjorg Turld(John), Helga Garborg along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ivar, parents Arthur and Marion Peterson, sisters Sandy (Gary) Johnson and Debra Peterson and in-laws in Norway.

Visitation will be Friday, August 14th from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home (814 First Avenue, Eau Claire, WI), followed by a graveside service.

A celebration of life will be held ½ mile north of Hwy 10 on Hwy 53 west of Osseo at the red shop (N51424 Harriman Rd, Osseo) on August 15th from 1:00 pm-4:00 pm.
