Obituary

David A. Black, age 55, died at home surrounded by family on Friday, April 9, 2004 following a brief and courageous battle with cancer. \r\nHe was born June 11, 1948 in Eau Claire to the late Charles and Irene (Johnson) Black. He graduated from North High School in 1966 and attended Wisconsin State University - Eau Claire where he majored in the field of medical technology. On November 5, 1983 he was united in marriage to Janet M. Baehr in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. \r\nDavid worked as a Maintenance Engineer at Luther Midelfort in Eau Claire. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church where he was baptized, confirmed and married. Throughout his life he taught various confirmation, Sunday school and adult Bible classes. David was active in Boy Scouts of America as a youth and later as a scout leader. He was an avid reader and had a passion for learning. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son. However, his favorite pastime was taking discarded items and finding new uses for them. David enjoyed sharing his knowledge and experiences with others and was viewed as a mentor to those closest to him. He will always be remembered for his gentle nature, sense of humor and smile. \r\nHe is survived by his loving wife, Jan of Eau Claire and son, Christian (fiancée Mandy) of Big Lake, Minnesota; one sister, Judy (Tom) Gibson of Monticello, Minnesota; and four brothers, Chuck (Mindy) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Don and Dennis both of San Diego, CA and John of Eau Claire. He is further survived by his mother-in-law, Esther Baehr of Mosinee, WI; two sisters-in-law, Judy (Jeff) Lawrence of Lake Bluff, IL and Jean (Steve) Rouse of Racine, WI; and brother-in-law, David (Sue) Baehr of Waukegan, IL; cousins, nieces, nephews and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law. \r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Joel A. Hoelter officiating. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.\r\nMemorial donations may be made to Luther Hospital and Northwest WisconsinHomecare-Hospice.
