Obituary

David C. Johnson, 73, of Eau Claire died Sunday, July 20, 2008 at his home. Born in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, on March 12, 1935, to Gail Hayes, he was later adopted by Conrad and Mabel Johnson in 1936, and grew up in Eau Claire.\r\nHe graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School with the class of 1953 and served in the U.S. Army from June 2, 1955, until his honorable discharge on April 17, 1957.\r\nDavid married Anita Britten at Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire on November 30, 1957, and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.\r\nHe graduated from UW-Stout in Menomonie in 1981 with a B.S. in Arts. He spent 40 years as an Interior Designer. He worked for the past twelve years at Hutchinson Technologies in Eau Claire, but continued to design and work with clients in his free time.\r\nFeatured in the local newspaper more than once, David gained attention during renovation of their downtown apartment in Eau Claire. He was again featured, with wife Anita, while decorating their three level home with lighted ceramic cities and villages that she had created. Combining his love of the Christmas season, decorating, and the joy that he gained from entertaining friends and family, he created wonderful holiday memories that will not be forgotten.\r\nAs an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, he knew his true calling was to use his gifts to help others. He worked lifelong as a volunteer and fundraiser for many organizations, including The Symphony Ball, Friends of the Library, Habitat for Humanity, and Bolton Refuge House.\r\nDavid is survived by his wife, Anita; three children, Jeffrey (Marie) Johnson of Clarksville, TN, Pamela Johnson of Eau Claire, WI, and Melissa (Mike) Kysely of Helenville, WI; his granddaughter, Taylor Kysely of Helenville, WI; brother, Daniel Johnson of WI; and five Hayes cousins, Judy Santi of Mundelien, IL, Sharee Vandburg of Little Chute, WI, and Lee Hayes, Connie Hayes, and Pat Hoffman all of Appleton, WI.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents.\r\nVisitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home and one hour Friday prior to services at the church.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 25, 2008, at Grace Lutheran Church with the Reverend Rolf A. Nestingen and Reverend David J. Irgens officiating. \r\nBurial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery where American Legion Post #53 will conduct military graveside honors.\r\nFamily requests memorials please be directed to the Grace Lutheran Church Food Pantry, 202 W.
