David George Lynnes, of Eau Claire, passed on October 11, 2016 with his daughters by his side at Clark County Health Care Center in Owen, Wisconsin, from complications of Alzheimer's. He was 85, and only nine days shy of 86. He was born David George Lynnes in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on October 20, 1930, or as he enjoyed telling others, his birthday, 10-20-30. Albin "Bun" Joseph Anderson Lynnes and Gerda Bertina (Roinstad) Lynnes were his proud and loving parents. David was a natural athlete playing golf, speed skating and was also a musician. He graduated from Eau Claire Senior High in 1948. While in high school, David was a drummer in the "Teddy Martin Band" and met the love of his life, Joyce Gilberg. They were married at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Eau Claire on June 7, 1952. Shortly after, they temporarily relocated to West Allis, Wisconsin where he was employed in Milwaukee at the Wisconsin Motor Company. Their first daughter, Debra Kim was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They returned to Eau Claire and he worked at Whites Machine Shop and five years later they had their second daughter, Karen Janett. After yet another five years had past, they had their last daughter, Wendy Ann. During that time Dave worked at the Vernon Company, which sold office supplies, and later worked for the Handleman Company that was affiliated with IGA Store Music Department Inventory. Dave also worked for the Canada Dry Company, prior to managing the Hollywood and Cinema I, along with designing and selling advertising for movie posters. His life long passion was to create a business that he would enjoy doing that would also include his family. West End Ice Cream Parlor and Movie House was the perfect way to indulge in his favorite past times, ice cream and antiques! He was the only person we knew that could "Pop a scoop" of ice cream and not get "Brain Freeze!" Dave could also educate and entertain patrons about his antique collections, which was quite extensive and ever changing. His parents, Bun and Gerda, were also there to share the gift of gab. It's a Lynnes thing! Dave also owned and operated Old Town Travel, which shuttled many to Packer Games as well as other popular Wisconsin destinations. Dave was a huge Packer fan! Later in life, he worked with Positive Avenues and met Sue, who was a great boss and friend… If you knew Dave, he was a huge history buff and loved collecting antique cars along with anything else from the past with a story that he could share. Dave had many lifelong friendships from the "Indianhead Old Car Club". They were like family to our family. He also took great pride in sharing his knowledge with local schools and would present elaborate and interesting show and tells that we all learned from which eventually led to him opening the "Eau Claire and Other History Museum" on Bellinger in Eau Claire. Dave and Joyce resided in the home they dreamed of having since Joyce was just twelve years old. We are thankful for his grandson Jason, for being his caregiver through Community Health Partners prior to moving to Owen, Wisconsin a few years ago. Dave loved to ride his bike and speed skate up until he moved to Owen, WI. As a resident of Clark County Health Care Center, he met new friends and was always willing to lend a helping hand with the staff. He enjoyed long walks and riding in the newly acquired golf cart. Our family would also like to thank the loving staff at Clark County Heath Care Center along with the Hospice nurses. They always made our Dad feel at home as well as when we visited. We also appreciated all the love, prayers and support of family and friends when we needed them most. David was a hard working, honest man, with strong love for his family, friends, animals and history. He was very generous and compassionate as well. We will miss him dearly, but will have many fond memories of him, he was a child at heart and could be caught skipping with any one of us down the street… A great man will be missed! David is survived by his three daughter's; Debbie (Stephen) Gregerson of Wilson, WI, Karen (Paul) Gordhamer of Waunakee, WI and Wendy (Robert) Peirce of Scottsdale, AZ. David was a grandfather to Kyle, Sean and Corey Gregerson, Jason Lee, and Kelly and Bobby Peirce. He was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Cameryn and Lilly Gregerson, children of Kyle. Also survived by nieces and nephews Mickey (MaryAnn), Lynnes, Kris (Frank Hurley) Lynnes Hurley, Mark (Mary) and Tom Lynnes, Gary (Paula Steinke) Heuer, Pam (Mike Sorenson) Heuer Sorenson, Mark and Scott Gilberg, and sister-in-law, Jean Gilberg, along with many other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and loving wife Joyce, two older brothers, Donald and Allen Lynnes.
