DAVID B. OWEN, 80, of 137 Canterbury Road, Town of Washington died Tuesday, December 9, 1997 at Luther Hospital. He was born July 28, 1917 in Chicago, IL, to Ralph and Elinor (Conover) Owen. He grew up in Eau Claire where he attended the Model School at Eau Claire Normal School. He went on to prep school at Gow School at South Wales,NY, and received his BA at Hobart College at Geneva,NY in 1940.\r\nDavid married Dorothy K. Haight on Oct. 3, 1942, in Hempstead, NY.\r\nHe entered the U.S. Navy Air Corps in 1941, and ended up as a 1st Lieutenant in Field Artillery with the U.S. Army, in Germany until his discharge in 1946.\r\nHe started with the Owen-Northwestern Lumber Company in Bloomer in 1946, working at their various yards, ending up as vice-president and credit manager, until the company was sold in 1963. In 1964, David began working at the Biology Department at UWEC, where he retired as the Curator of the Clark Bird Museum in 1973. He also served with the Audio-Visual Department while at UWEC.\r\nHe raised Irish Wolfhounds and showed them for 20 years, making a number of champions. Dave was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Eau Claire and the Old G.O.A.T.S.\r\nSurvivors include his wife, Dorothy; four sons, David Jr. and Philip both of Eau Claire, Peter(Verena) of Zion,IL, and Christopher(Julie) of Superior; six grandsons and two granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ralph Owen Jr. ; two sisters, Dr. Cora Rust Owen and Margaret Owen Rogers; a niece, Jane Owen Kornitzer in August 1997; and two nephews, Stephen Owen and Owen Rogers.\r\nMemorial services will be at 10 A.M. Saturday , at Christ Church Cathedral , with The Very Rev. H. Scott Kirby officiating. Burial will be in Drummond Cemetery, Drummond,WI. Friends may call one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home is serving the family. The family suggests memorials please be directed to Luther Hospital, Chippewa Valley Museum, Eau Claire Humane Association, or a charity of the donors choice.
