Obituary

DAVID G. STRAND, 63, of Chetek and formerly of Eau Claire, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 21, 1999 at Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake. He was born June 28, 1935, in Eau Claire to Louis and Minnie (Hanson) Strand. David graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School with the class of 1953. He married Gladys Theone Rustad on November 2, 1957 at Lyster Church in Nelson. He retired as MSGT from the United States Airforce in 1973 after twenty years, having served throughout the world including Korea, Vietnam, and the Cuban Missile Crisis. He returned to Eau Claire and worked in maintenance at the Eau Claire Academy for five years, and was then self-employed in the whitewashing and dehorning business for thirteen years. David was the caretaker/attendant for Barron County Veteran's Memorial Campground in Cameron the past two years.\r\nDavid's hobbies included deer hunting and fishing; he was an avid sports fan, enjoyed going to his sons' hockey games, and was previously involved in Hallie Boys Baseball. He loved visiting family, friends, and being a Grandpa. \r\nHe was a member of VFW Post #5780 in Weyerhauser and American Legion Post #268 in Bruce.\r\nHe is survived by his wife, Gladys; three sons, Greg (Bleeker) of Advance, NC, Scott (Kelly) of Cottage Grove, MN, and Luke (Heidi Erickson) of Eau Claire; five grandchildren, Bahnie, Laura, David, Kyle and Jordan; two sisters, Gloria Suring of Menomonee Falls, and Janna Gunderson of Chetek; a brother, Alvin (Frankie) of Eau Claire; two sisters-in-law, Marjorie and Betty Strand, both of Eau Claire; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Minnie Strand; two brothers, Lionel and Henry; and three brothers-in-law, Conrad Gunderson, Donald Bechel, and Norman Suring.\r\nFuneral Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church Chapel with The Rev. Dr. Duane C. Pederson officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Gardens Cemetery in the Town of Washington where VFW Post #305 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Monday at the Church. \r\nDavid was a great husband, father, grandpa and friend. We will miss him dearly.
