Obituary

DeLos Kenneth Sather, age 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 19, 2012, after a brief stay at Dove Healthcare South and then Mayo Clinic Health System Eau Claire. DeLos gave his family and friends an amazing gift of time, allowing children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends, time to gather with him to say good-bye and share many wonderful memories thru laughter and tears. DeLos was born on November 26, 1925, in Eau Claire, the son of Ole and Gena (Hugdahl) Sather. He graduated from Eau Claire High School and then entered the Navy in 1943. He served his country in the Pacific until 1946. On October 11, 1947, he married his wife, Norma (Newton) at First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. To this union, three children were born; Rodney, Jean and Julie. DeLos worked at various jobs until 1953, when he joined the Eau Claire Fire Department. After 30 years of service he retired, in Jan of 1984, as a Platoon Commander. During his years on the Fire Dept. he also worked for John Kroll in his flooring business. DeLos volunteered for many years at Step Force at Luther Hospital and was an active member of the Moose Lodge, serving his term as Governor in 1991-1992. DeLos was a lifetime member of First Lutheran Church, a life member of VFW Post 305 and American Legion Post 53, and a member of good standing of Retired Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin. In their younger years, living on the east-side hill, DeLos and Norma created many special memories with their friends, Howie and Judy Bowers. They and their families had many fun times at neighborhood gatherings, summers at various cottages and trips to Hawaii. After their children had grown, and they moved south of town, they created many more wonderful memories with their good friends, Jan and Lowell Joseph and Marge and Erv Schmidt. They also traveled many places together, created great memories at the "Joseph cottage", and had the on-going competition of winning and losing at poker games with the "Motley Crew". DeLos was such a true blessing to so many people during his time here on earth. He was a gentle, kind, caring person, never to say an unkind word to anyone. He was the best husband, father, grand-father and great-grandfather anyone could ever hope for. He always had a twinkle in his eye and a goofy face for the grand-kids, teasing and having fun with them. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Norma; two daughters Jean Joseph and Julie Jackelen; his grandchildren, Tina (Jason) Lemke, Lisa (Eric) Williams, Angie (Bob) Foy, Josh Joseph, Jesse Jackelen, Amanda Jackelen and Evan Jackelen; great-grandchildren, Erin, Jaime, Tyler, Brady Lemke, Andrew and Logan Williams, Robbie, Joseph, Payton and Wyatt Foy and Indigo Jackelen; and a brother, Gerald Sather of Waterford, WI. He was preceded in death by his son, Rodney Sather; son-in-law, Mike Jackelen; and sister-in-law, Nancy Sather. Funeral services will be held on Friday January 4, 2013, at First Lutheran Church at 12:00pm with Pastor Michael Rehak and Pastor Lowell Halvorson officiating. Family and friends may gather from 10:30am to 12:00pm prior to the service at the church. The Loyal Order of Moose #1408 will conduct Moose Rites at 11:30am. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire with military rites conducted by VFW Post 305. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral & Cremation Services is serving his family.
