Obituary

Dennis Franzo Reiter, 74, of Eau Claire and formerly of Rhinelander, died on Thursday, December 6, 2007, at his home. He was born in Eau Claire on January 8, 1933, the son of Henry and Esther Reiter. Dennis graduated from Altoona High School in 1951 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from UW-Eau Claire in 1961.\r\nHe served in the in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from his enlistment in July 24, 1952, until his honorable discharge as Staff Sergeant on July 23, 1956.\r\nDennis married Sibyl L. Steiner on June 8, 1963, in Eau Claire\r\nDennis was employed with the State of Wisconsin in various capacities within the State Department of Labor and Human Relations, beginning in 1963, until his retirement as a Workforce Development/Unemployment Compensation Director in October, 1989.\r\nHe was a past member of Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire and Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rhinelander. He was made a Master Mason on February 4, 1971, and was a member of Rhinelander Lodge #242 F&AM where he served as Worshipful Master 1983-84. Prior to moving to Rhinelander he was a member of Sanctuary Lodge #347 in Eau Claire. He was also a member of Tripoli Shrine Temple (Milwaukee) where he served as Rhinelander Shrine Club secretary.\r\nDennis is survived by his wife Sibyl; sister Faye Reiter of Eau Claire; son Joshua Reiter of Madison, WI; two daughters, Elizabeth Reiter of Des Moines, IA, and Melinda (Jeffrey) Schroepfer of Hammond, WI; grandson Christian Reiter; niece Stephanie (Graeme) Chaple of St. Paul, MN, and brother-in-law Victor Martin of Okeechobee, FL.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; and sister-in-law, Sharon Martin.\r\nDennis was a well rounded individual whose many interests included wood working, photography, and culinary experimentation. An avid reader, he also enjoyed the outdoors, the arts, and spending time at his family's lake property in New Auburn, WI. Dennis was always proud of his Altoona heritage and upbringing, coming from a one-room grade school and a graduating class of 13. Dennis stayed in close contact with his friends and classmates throughout the years.\r\nMemorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday December 11, 2007, in the chapel at Grace Lutheran Church, Eau Claire with Pastor Rolf A. Nestingen officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Eau Claire. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, Eau Claire and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the Church Chapel. A Masonic service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.\r\nFamily requests memorials please be directed to Shriners Hospital, c/o Tripoli Shrine Temple, 3000 W.
