Dennis Lee Schmidt, 59, of Eau Claire died Monday, April 23, 2007, at Luther Hospital.\r\nHe was born on July 19, 1947, to Kurt and Viola (Hoy) Schmidt in Watertown, South Dakota. \r\nHe attended Grant Elementary School and graduated from Watertown High School in 1965.\r\nDennis enlisted in the U.S. Navy on September 13, 1966. He served on board the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Bon Homme Richard until his honorable discharge in February 1970.\r\nFollowing his discharge, Dennis moved to Eau Claire where he worked 37 years for Brown Paper Company (currently Cascade Tissue Group) until his poor health forced him to retire in February of this year. \r\nHe enjoyed camping, watching and talking sports, and visiting with his family and friends.\r\nSurvivors include his sister-in-law, Agness Schmidt of Watertown, SD; three nephews, Kurt Schmidt of Anchorage, AK; Jeff Schmidt of Watertown, SD, and Stuart Schmidt of Webster, SD; niece, Iva (Gordon) Rahlf of Watertown, SD; and his best friends, Albin and Terri Dascher of Eau Claire, and Tom Bresina of Altoona.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Duane Schmidt and sister, Janice Schmidt.\r\nMemorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2007, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, Eau Claire with Pastor David Sands officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Watertown, SD. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home.\r\n
