Dennis "Denny" Raymond Starin, 68, of Eau Claire, passed away with his family by his side on December 24, 2011, at Mayo Clinic Health System, Eau Claire. Denny was born on December 26, 1942, to Raymond and Leona (Alitz) Starin in Eau Claire. He graduated from Memorial High School in 1962 and then went on to barbering school. He married Marilyn J. Brandt on October 3, 1964, in Merrill, WI. Denny then joined the US Navy on December 2, 1965. He fought in the Vietnam War as a Seabee from 1968 to 1969 before his honorable discharge on September 30, 1969. Upon discharge from the Navy, he was a local barber until the start of his employment at Uniroyal where he worked for 22 years prior to the close of the plant. He then worked for Golden Rule before becoming employed with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation until his retirement in 2005. Denny lived a full and active life. He enjoyed hunting with his son and grandsons and golfing with his family and friends. Denny and Marilyn enjoyed camping at various campgrounds with family and friends. He also enjoyed taking drives around town with his beloved puppies, Abbey and Beaver. Denny was a member of VFW Post 305, American Legion and Chippewa Valley Eagle's Club #2213. He enjoyed going to the Eagle's Club every Sunday to watch a Packer, Brewer or Badger game or just to enjoy the company of family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Marilyn; daughter, Toni (Dale) Peterson of Eau Claire; son, Jeff (Cassie Buttke) of Hallie; daughter, Diana Buckli of Chippewa Falls; 6 grandchildren, Chelsea, Czandlar and Jhordynn Starin, Justin, Alexis and Kaitlyn Buckli; 3 step-grandchildren, Jesse (Lauri) Domer, Amber and Joseph Peterson; 4 step-great grandchildren, Aden Peterson, Naomi, Gabriel and Caleb Domer; son-in-law, Kevin Buckli; brother, David (Mary) Starin of Minnesota; and many nephews, nieces and friends. Denny was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services for Denny will be at 11 a.m. at Hope Lutheran on Thursday, December 29, 2011, with Pastor Randy Olson officiating. Family and friends are invited for visitation on Wednesday, December 28, 2011, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home WEST CHAPEL. Burial will be at a later date in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Spooner, WI.
