Dennis W. Stewart, 63, of Elk Mound died at home, surrounded by his family on Friday, August 9, 2013. He was born on February 18, 1950, in Eau Claire to William and Marie (Gullickson) Stewart. Dennis worked for a landscaping company where he met Lillian Grotophorst. They married on December 10, 1971, in Eau Claire. They farmed for many years as well as owned and operated a landscaping business. They raised six children together and Dennis enjoyed being a dad, staying home and caring for them. Later in life Dennis took the opportunity to care for his grandchildren. He felt his greatest accomplishment in life was raising and caring for his family. He was an avid gardener and outdoorsman. He also loved playing dartball, starting as a teenager playing with his dad and family members. Dennis is survived by his wife of 41 years, Lily; children, Lucinda (Scott) Ruffi, Leona (Mark) Rude, Lori (Charles) Gorell, Jason Stewart, Michael (Jesse) Soul-Stewart, and Lisa Stewart; grandchildren, Colton and Nolan Ruffi, Christopher Kirking, Austin, Zachary and Tristan Rude, Kala Gorell, Anna and Jesse Stewart, and River and Rownan Soul-Stewart; brothers, Larry (Susan) Stewart, Steven (Brenda) Stewart, and Brian (Dawn) Stewart; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandchildren, Josie and Jacob Gorell; and nephew, James Stewart. Memorial Service will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2013, at Truax United Church of Christ, 1008 50th St., Eau Claire with Pastor David Stratton officiating. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
