DOLORES (SODERBERG) LONG, 84, of 2617 Haanstad Road, Eau Claire, died Friday, November 26, 1999 at Dove Health Care Center. She was born December 1, 1914 to Edgar H. and Theresa (Verhaalen) Coulson in New Richmond. \r\nHer family moved to Marshfield in 1925, where she played violin in the school orchestra, sang in the Women's Glee Club, was a member of Camp Fire Girls, and was involved in plays. Dolores' family later moved to Stanley, where she graduated from the Stanley H.S. in 1932. She attended the Stanley Rural Teacher's College. Dolores worked in a theater, and for a photographer. She also taught kindergarten. In 1937, she married George Soderberg and they lived in Thorp. They moved to Spooner in 1939, where they opened a Gamble's Store. Later they moved to Menomonie, where Dolores became a member of the Women's Club, the United Methodist Church, taught Sunday School, helped with Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, and worked for Cassel's Apparel and Caroline's Gift shop. She was a member of the Eastern Star.\r\nDolores and George parented five children, and she dedicated much of her life to raising these children in a very close and loving family. \r\nDolores married Johann Long in 1987 and moved to Eau Claire. She joined the First Lutheran Church, volunteered at Luther Hospital, played golf at Lowes Creek Golf Course, played the organ, and belonged to several bridge clubs. She loved gardening, music, dancing, and especially her family.\r\nSurvivors include three sons: David G. (Joan) Soderberg of Janesville, Dale (Bonnie) Soderberg of Danbury, and Dennis (Jane) Soderberg of Baldwin; two daughters: Sally J. (Richard) Northrop of Green Bay, and Linda M. (Ben) Lightfoot of Burnsville, MN; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren;a sister, Anita Balliett of Eau Claire; and a brother, George Coulson of Sun Lakes, AZ.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her husbands, George Soderberg in 1975, and Johann Long in 1993.\r\nMemorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Lake St. United Methodist Church in Eau Claire. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Menomonie. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.
