Obituary

DON Q. SYVERSON, 62, of W6090 Hemlock Road, Mondovi, died Tuesday, October 24, 2000 from a heart attack while on an Elk hunting trip in Colorado. He was born on July 23, 1938 to Melvin and Corinne (Quarne) Syverson near Taylor, Wisconsin in Springfield Township, Jackson County. Don attended Sunnyside School in Tappen Coulee and was active in 4-H. He graduated in 1956 from Blair High School where he was captain of his high school football team. \r\nDon married Norma Barneson in Eau Claire at Peace Lutheran Church on June 29, 1963. Norma died in 1996. He married Sharon Melby on January 25, 1997 in Eau Claire.\r\nHe served in the 101st US Army Airborne from August, 1957 until May, 1959.\r\nHe was an Engineering Specialist for the Highway Department, Wisconsin Department of Transportation, from 1959 until his retirement in 1997. He did surveying, building bridges and highways, and supervised several of these projects.\r\nAn avid outdoorsman, Don's interests included dog training where he participated in field trials, sports, and his love for hunting and fishing. He had served as a Boy Scout Leader, coached Little League, was in the kinship program mentoring a special young man in his life. He and his late wife, Norma, were devoted members of the Blugolds Back Court Club for many years. Survivors include his wife, Sharon; son, Michael (Kim) of Boulder Junction, WI; daughter, Linda (Terry) O'Connell of Brighton, MI; his mother, Corrine Syverson of Blair; four grandchildren, Travis and Kelsie Syverson, Rachel and Nathan O'Connell; two step children, Sherry (Leif) Skogstad and Paul Melby, both of Black River Falls, WI; five step-grandchildren and a step great-granddaughter; three sisters, Joyce (Charles) Hoffmann of Mound, MN, Darlene Audibert of Ocean Parks, FL, and Leann (Paul) Theisen of Holman, WI; his brother, Ronald (Ferne) Syverson of Janesville,WI; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by first wife, Norma; his father, Melvin; and a nephew, Todd Syverson.\r\nFuneral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, October 30, 2000 at Peace Lutheran Church, Eau Claire with Pastor Mark W. Schulz officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Gardens Cemetery in the Town of Washington, where VFW Post # 305 will conduct Military Graveside Rites. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, Eau Claire and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
