Obituary

Donald L. Hanson, 85, of Marshfield died Saturday, January 29, 2005, at the Bethel Center in Arpin. He was born in Washburn on January 17, 1920, the son of Lewis and Lavina (Markeson) Hanson. \r\nDon graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1937. He attended Eau Claire State Teacher's College and St. Olaf College.\r\nHe served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1941 to 1945. Don was a Masonic Lodge and Shrine member in Illinois.\r\nDon married Birgitte "Tommie" Thompson in Spring Valley on August 18, 1949.\r\nHe was associated in the management field of the J.C. Penney Company for 33 years, living in Eau Claire, Duluth, Rapid City, Fond du Lac, Rockford and Peoria. He retired managing the store in Marshfield, WI.\r\nAfter retirement Don was an active volunteer with the Wood County Fair in Marshfield.\r\nSurvivors include his brother, Allan (Patricia) of Eau Claire, sister-in-law, Josephine Hanson of Verona; five nephews, Mark (Joni) Hanson, Stephen (Cheryl) Hanson, Paul (Liane), David (Mary) Hanson, and James (Joan) Hanson; a niece, Barbara Hanson; and special friend, Jean Wilcott of Marshfield.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Birgitte; and brother, Ken.\r\nIn lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Grace Lutheran Church, 202 West Grand Avenue, Eau Claire, WI 54703, or to the charity of one's choice.\r\nA memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2005, at Grace Lutheran Church Chapel. Family and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at church. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home is serving the family.\r\n
