Donald M. Johnson, 90, of Eau Claire, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2013, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire. Don was born on October 6, 1922, in Eau Claire to Ole and Sophie (Grosvold) Johnson. He graduated from Eau Claire High School and immediately following enlisted in the United States Army. While in the service, Don was in North Africa and glided into Normandy. He received the certificate of Merit for his outstanding performance in the Military Police Division. Don married Wilma Jean Tubbs on July 21, 1946 in Eau Claire, and to this union one daughter, Kathy was born. Don was an avid lover of sports and was one of the best golfers the Chippewa Valley has ever seen; he won numerous trophies for golfing championships. He also loved the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badger and the Milwaukee Brewers. Don is survived by his nieces, Judy (Corky) Kneer, Vicki Kressin and Sue (Rolly) Bembnister; nephews, Ronald (Betty) Johnson, Bill (Sally) Otterson and Steve (Debbie) Johnson; and sister-in-law, Winnie Krause. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma; daughter, Kathy; parents; sisters, Mirelda and Evelyn; brothers, Sigurd, Mark, Palmer, Ralph, Harold and Vic. Funeral services will be held at 11a.m., on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at First Lutheran Church, 1005 Oxford Ave., Eau Claire with Pastor Michael Rehak and Pastor Lowell Halvorson officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7p.m. on Monday, January 7, 2012, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave., Eau Claire and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, at the church. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post 53.
