Donald R. Mattson Jr. age 64, of Eau Claire, died at Mayo Clinic Health System, Eau Claire on Monday, November 12, 2012. Don was born on September 6, 1948 in St. Paul MN, to Donald and Lorraine (Lendway) Mattson. Don graduated from Kellogg High School in 1966. He joined the US Army and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. After returning home from the military, he attended barber school in St. Paul, MN. He then married Karen Dobrenski on April 21, 1979, in Rochester, MN. Don and Karen are the owners of Cutting Edge Hair Design in Eau Claire, where he was an active Barber. Don enjoyed entertaining his clients and friends with jokes and hilarious stories. Don very much loved his wife and children. He spent many hours watching Hockey, playing and watching golf, telling jokes, and cheering for any MN sports. He was an entrepreneur, loved meeting new people and was always the life of the party. Don is survived by his wife of 33 years, Karen; daughter, Christie of New York; son, Eric (Shayla) of Eau Claire; sister, Connie Mattson of St. Paul; along with many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 16, 2012, at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home, WEST CHAPEL, 1405 N. Clairemont Ave., Eau Claire, with a Public Prayer Vigil beginning at 7 p.m. Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 2502 11th St., Eau Claire, with a visitation one hour prior to Mass at Church. Fr. John A. Schultz will be officiating Mass. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date. Local Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #53. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.
