Donald F. Meyers, 80, of Eau Claire died Friday, March 5, 2010, at Oakwood Hills Retirement Center. He was born at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire on August 20, 1929, a son of George I. and Louise (Koenig) Meyers.\r\nHe attended St. Patrick's Elementary and graduated from St. Patrick's High School (Regis) in 1947. Don graduated from St. John's University in Collegeville, MN, in 1951, and then did graduate studies at the University of Minnesota, St. Paul, Foreign Service Institute, and American University, both in Washington DC. \r\nHe served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. \r\nDon taught school in Melrose, MN, and St. Thomas Academy in St. Paul, MN, before joining the Foreign Service Diplomatic Corps. in 1957. He served in the embassies or consulates of LeHavre, France; Bamako, Mali; Conakry, Guinea; Washington, DC; Ottawa, Canada; Singapore, China; Brisbane, Australia; Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; and Casablanca, Morocco. Don returned to Eau Claire after retiring from the Foreign Service in 1983. \r\nHe was a member of the Executive Board of the Eau Claire Democratic Party, Advocacy Committee of the Eau Claire Regional Arts Center, Poll Worker, American Foreign Services Assoc., and the National Assoc. of retired Federal Employees.\r\nDon enjoyed fishing, gardening, collecting art, watching soap operas, reading, politics, doing crossword puzzles in ink, going to the casinos, and kidding his family and friends.\r\nHe is survived by his brother, George G. (Joan) Meyers of Eau Claire; sister, Marianna (Thomas) Greenlee of Eau Claire; nephews and nieces, Greg Meyers, Jenny Meyers, Joni Shriner, Jayni Mattes, Gavin Greenlee, Peter Greenlee, Geol Greenlee, Neri Greenlee Wilkerson, and Nori Hadley; and many great nieces and nephews. \r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; and a nephew, Thomas D. Greenlee.\r\nMass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at St. Olaf Catholic Church with Father Brian Konopa celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Eau Claire.
