DONALD P. SMISKEY, age 74, of 718 Lee St., died Friday, February 5, 1999 in Pensacola, Florida, as a result of injuries received as a pedestrian from an automobile in Orange Beach, Alabama. He was born on November 28, 1924 in Eau Claire to Robert and Mary (Thomas) Smiskey.\r\nDon trained at the Citizens Military Training Camp at Fort Snelling from 1939 to 1940. He served in the U.S. Navy's Armed Guard as a Boatswain's Mate from 1942 to his honorable discharge December 19, 1945. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, European African Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, American Area Ribbon, and Phillipine Liberation Ribbon.\r\nHe married Alice Behnke on September 12, 1946 in Milwaukee. Don worked at Gillette Rubber Co. for two years then at Johnson Printing for 46 years, retiring in 1994. He played for the Eau Claire Rockets Hockey Team, City League Softball and served as an officer for the Chippewa Valley Traffic Club.\r\nSurvivors include, his wife, Alice; one daughter, Sandra, of Altoona; two sons, Steven, of Altoona and Larry (Lisa) of Eau Claire; four grandchildren, Jacob and Jayden Smiskey and Kayla and Nathan Olson; two sisters, Eleanore Wensel and Margaret (Arvid) Bjornton both of Eau Claire; a sister-in-law, Eileen Smiskey of Eau Claire; many nieces and nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters Marcella Brandl and Mary Ann Strand; a brother, Robert; and a daughter-in-law, Mary K. Smiskey.\r\nDon loved his family, his grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and life in general, he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.\r\nFuneral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home with Father Edmund Klimek officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery with Military Rites. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and an hour prior to services Thursday at the funeral home.\r\n
