Donald C. Smith, 85, of Foster, died Thursday, June 23, 2005, at his home. He was born in Albertville, Wisconsin on August 7, 1919, the son of Fred and Agnes (Walmark) Smith. \r\nDonald farmed on his family farm until entering the U.S. Army in November 1942. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II, and was honorable discharged in January 1946. \r\nHe married Marlys R. Israel in Colfax, WI; Maryls died in 1966. Donald married Carol E. Pagenkopf in Eau Claire, on June 21, 1969; Carol died in 1999.\r\nDonald farmed near Albertville and then worked at Pope and Talbot Paper Mill until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of the Russell-Toycen American Legion Post #131 in Colfax, and the Craig Olson VFW Post #8514 in Osseo.\r\nSurvivors include his son Steve (Pat) of Osseo; a daughter, Sally Smith of Chippewa Falls; nine grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and a sister, Ruby Mathison of Racine. \r\nHe adored all his grandchildren and they adored him.\r\nHe was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Danny; three brothers, Les, Fred, and Bob Smith; and two sisters, Florence and twin sister, Dorothy\r\nFuneral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2005, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral home, with Pastor Russell Kampfer officiating. Burial will be in Lower Running Valley Cemetery in the town of Colfax, Dunn County, WI. Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services on Monday.
