Donald J. "Don" Spindler, 67, of 740 Bolles Street died Sunday, July 7, 1996 at his home. He was born March 26, 1929 in Wausau,WI to Herman and Eleanor (Jaeckel) Spindler. He graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School with the class of 1946. Don married Gloria A. Nelson on August 24, 1951 in Eau Claire. During the Korean War he served in the U.S. Army as an MP from 1951 through 1953. Don retired as a lieutenant with the Eau Claire Sheriffs Department after 24 years of service in 1985.\r\nAn avid hunter and fisherman, he served on the board of directors for the Eau Claire Rod and Gun Club, was a committee member of Ducks Unlimited and the Disabled Hunters, and served as a DNR special conservation warden. Don was a member of First Lutheran Church, Northwest Peace Officers Assoc.and a life member of VFW Post # 305.\r\nSurvivors include his wife, Gloria; a son, Brian(Janet) of Fall Creek; two daughters, Paula(Don)Rust of Eau Claire and Lynn(John)Reeves of Arcadia; seven grandchildren, Brian, Candis and Trevor Spindler of Fall Creek, Nathan and Alyssa Rust of Eau Claire, Kimberly and Dustin Reeves of Arcadia; three brothers, Marlin(Jean) of Beaver Dam, Allen(Judy) of Eau Claire and Alvin(Kay) of Brooklyn Park,MN; many nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents.\r\nFuneral Services will be at 11 A.M. Thursday at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Robert E. Esse officiating. Burial will in Rest Haven Gardens Cemetery, Town of Washington with military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post #305. Friends may call 4 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.\r\nDon will be greatly missed by his Family and Friends.
