Obituary

Dorothea R. Thurow, 93, of Eau Claire, WI, was taken to heaven to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, December 14, 2007, at Dove Health Care in Eau Claire, WI.\r\nDorothea was born on October 27, 1914, in Menominee, MI, to Albert and Augusta (Eckert) Koch, the youngest of nine children. \r\nOn December 26, 1943, she married Carl M. Thurow, pastor of congregations in Pine Grove and Shirley, WI. As his loving wife, she supported Carl in his ministry, which also included congregations he served in Two Rivers, WI, Lamar, CO, Fridley, MN and Austin, MN. Dorothea and Carl moved to Eau Claire in 1984 to be closer to their children when Carl retired from the ministry. Dorothea spent her life in loving service to others. She was a devoted wife to Carl, a loving and caring mother to their five children, and a concerned and helpful Christian friend to the many members of the congregations her husband served. Her life of service to others was a reflection of the gracious love with which God blessed her through faith in Jesus Christ. She was filled with a sure belief in her salvation and eternal life in heaven, based on God's Word in the Bible from Ephesians chapter 2, verse 8, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast."\r\nDorothea is survived by her four children, Carla (Jim) Pelzl, Nona (Paul) Schaller, and Theodore (Connie) Thurow all of Eau Claire, and Paula (Scott) Schwartz of Chippewa Falls; a daughter-in-law, Roxann Thurow of St. Paul, MN; eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; son, Martin; her parents; and eight sisters and brothers, Magdalena, Ida, Clara, Amanda, Leona, Albert, Howard and William.\r\nA visitation for relatives, friends and acquaintances, followed by a victory/memorial service, will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church, 2015 N. Hastings Way, Eau Claire, WI 54703 on Tuesday, December 18, 2007. The visitation will begin at 11 a.m., followed by the service at 12 (noon), with Pastors Mark Gullerud and Paul M. Tiefel officiating. Family graveside committal services will be held Tuesday at Prairie View Cemetery in the town of Hallie prior to services at the church. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, Eau Claire is serving the family.
