Dorothy J. Bien, 84, of Eau Claire, died on January 1, 2014, at Clairemont Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born on August 31, 1929, in Duluth, MN, the daughter of Alex and Margaret (Karash) Kulig. After her mother's death in 1941, she resided with her sister and brother-in-law in Superior, WI, where she graduated from East High School in 1947. Shortly after, she moved to Eau Claire with them. She married Vern Bien on April 14, 1951, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Eau Claire. Dorothy was employed as a secretary and bookkeeper in area offices and businesses, most recently at Children's House Montessori School. She was a charter member of the St. James Rosary Confraternity and an active volunteer at Sacred Heart Hospital. She very much enjoyed books, riding her bike, walking and playing cards. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Vern; one daughter, Julie (Alan) Rauch of Princeton, NJ, and their children, Rebecca, Benjamin, and Sarah; son, Jeffrey of Loves Park, IL, and his daughters, Johnna (Matt) Melton and Julianne; son, Joe of Bastrop, TX and his son, Jason (Emily); son, David (Marjorie) of Prairie du Sac, WI, and their daughters, Carly (Zac) Leider and Christie (Antwane) Thompson; son, Andy (Betty) of Mesa, AZ, and their daughter, Ashley. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren, London Bien, Owen Melton, Mahlia Thompson, Jackson Leider, and Aaron Bien; sister-in-law, Anna Marie Bien of Eau Claire; nieces and nephews, and many special friends. Her family was her life and her joy. She will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Irene Graziano; brothers, Allen and Eugene; granddaughter, Jaclyn Bien; nephew, Eugene "Chip" Kulig; and brothers-in-law, Chester Bien and Peter Graziano. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, January 6, 2013, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1712 Highland Ave., Eau Claire, with Fr. Don Meuret officiating. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. at church. Interment will be at Rest Haven Cemetery, Town of Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or Sacred Heart Hospital Chapel.
