Dorothy Josephine Blazel, 95, of Altoona, passed away on Thursday, June 06, 2013, at Oakwood Villa in Altoona. She was born in Stanley on August 13, 1917 to John and Clara (Dittman) Molling. She grew up on the family farm with six brothers and one sister. She attended Stanley High School graduating with the Class of 1935. After high school Dorothy worked as a housekeeper in order to save up for her dream of becoming a nurse. Dorothy fulfilled that dream, and attended Saint Francis School of Nursing in La Crosse, graduating in 1942. Dorothy began her nursing career at the Veterans Administrations Hospital in Milwaukee. She moved back to Stanley and married Gordon Blazel at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Stanley on September 16, 1944 and together they began their family. She was a working mother at Victory Memorial Hospital in Stanley and also at the Northern Center in Chippewa. Dorothy retired from nursing in 1983. After retirement, Dorothy and her Gordon did a great deal of traveling. She enjoyed gardening and always had the most beautiful flower beds. Dorothy learned to bake alongside her mother on the farm and her caramel and cinnamon rolls were always in demand. She loved to play cards and spent many happy hours playing cribbage with her children and grandchildren. Dorothy was devoted to her family and was happiest being surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There were many gatherings at "Mom's Cafe" for her special lunches and dinners. Dorothy is survived by her 7 children, Rita (Dennis) Eichner of Broomfield, CO, Paul (Joan) Blazel of Chippewa Falls, David (Karen) Blazel of Eau Claire, Ken (Linda) Blazel of New Berlin, John (Maxine) Blazel of Eau Claire, Jean (Jeff) Paprocki of New Berlin, and Mary (Scott) Lewis of Eau Claire; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Gerald (Kappy) Molling and Raymond Molling; 1 sister, Margaret (John) Brandt; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon in 1996; parents; and 4 brothers, Joseph, Leo, Lawrence and Arnold. A very special thanks to the staff at Oakwood Villa for their loving care of Dorothy, to Michelle from Southwest Family Care Alliance, to Fr. Konopa and Fr. Schultz, and St. Joseph Hospice.
